Publications are an important aspect of the JSB’s work. They include guidance on different aspects of managing a hearing for judges, and guidance on the provision of training for all judges in the courts and tribunals.

As well as the titles listed below, the JSB publishes a range of training materials for magistrates, including the Adult Court, Family Court and Youth Court Bench Books.
Competence frameworks
The Framework of Judicial Qualities and Abilities identifies the knowledge, skills, behaviours and attitudes that district and circuit judges are expected to demonstrate in performing their judicial role.
The Tribunal Competences: Qualities and Abilities in Action sets out the skills, knowledge and behavioural attributes needed to perform the judicial role in any tribunal jurisdiction.

The JSB publishes a series of training frameworks for those sitting as a tribunal chairman or member. In addition, the Tribunals journal is published three times a year and sent, free of charge, to the tribunals judiciary.
