Glossary of Terms
- Action Plan
- A series of steps agreed upon to carry out a given task
- Analysis Framework
- A structured way of breaking down information
- Evaluation
- A device for measuring the quality, content and delivery of training
- Evaluation Strategy
- The format, methods and timescale decided on to assess the impact of the training
- Graphical Method
- Any form of visual presentation which helps present a picture of the information obtained e.g. bar chart, scattergram etc.
- Impact
- The change that happens as a result of training/learning
- Minority Information
- Facts gathered during the evaluation process which, while important are not key to measuring the effectiveness of the training
- Objectives
- The goal of the training. An objective is a measurable statement of what the learner should be able to do at the end of the training or learning (this is distinct from 'outcome' or 'impact' of the training)
- Outcome
- The result of the training or the conclusion from evaluation; focus groups etc.
- Qualitative Data
- Collected information which relates to participants thoughts, feelings and attitudes towards training
- Quantitative Data
- The collected facts and figures recorded which measure the quality, content and delivery of training
- Rated Scale
- A scale of responses used in questionnaires for example, a scale of 4 responses ranging from totally satisfied to totally dissatisfied
- Risk-based approach/Risk Assessment/Pragmatic Approach
- The process of determining the cost verses benefits of evaluating training
- Validation
- Validating any aspect of the training, including the venue and the immediate reaction to training
