Governance of the Judicial Studies Board

Tribunals Committee

The role of the Tribunals Committee is to assure the JSB and the Senior President of Tribunals that the training needs of judicial office-holders in tribunals are being met. It does this by:

  • setting the training standards frameworks and competences on which training is based
  • developing and delivering training programmes for tribunal judges and non-legal members in the competences required for the judicial role
  • providing support and guidance to tribunals in the delivery of training within their own jurisdictions
  • evaluating the quality of training, appraisal and mentoring provision in tribunals.

The committee is chaired by a High Court Judge and includes Tribunal Presidents, judicial training heads and academic trainers from a wide range of tribunal jurisdictions. Officials from the Ministry of Justice, the Tribunals Service, and a representative from the Administrative Justice and Tribunals Council (AJTC) also attend.
